From this year, a thousand computers can be connected simultaneously at the Cagliari facility, as befits large events
The conference centre of the International Trade Fair of Sardinia (Fiera Internazionale della Sardegna) in Cagliari is completely cabled with a wi-fi network that allows 1,000 computers to connect simultaneously.
“This is the latest update to what is one of the most modern and well-equipped conference facilities of the Mediterranean”, says Sandro Follesa, deputy director of the International Trade Fair of Sardinia. One of its attractions is its location at the centre of the Gulf of Angels, directly overlooking the sea: the centre is near Cagliari Airport, the commercial port and sea terminal for cruise ships are just a few hundred metres away, and delegates can enjoy a short walk along tree-lined avenues to the beaches and the city’s main hotels.
“It is a real conference “stronghold”, with three venues: the Palazzo dei Congressi, which can seat more than 900; the multi-roomed pavilion, with a total capacity of 1,600 in three different rooms; and the Sala Figari, with seats for another 300. Four new recently-built rooms, able to hold between 50 and 200 delegates, are also available”, continues Follesa.
Opened in 2003, the conference centre has since hosted many national and international conferences and corporate conventions, most recently including the prestigious financial conference Forex, the XIV World Congress of the International Society of Psychiatric Genetics (ISPG) attended by more than 2,500 people and, in May 2009, an international tourism conference with 800 participants. Two important medical-scientific meetings are confirmed for 2010 and 2011, and will bring in a total of more than 2,000 delegates.
