In May, tourism was again given its own ministry, after years as a department set up as an undersecretariat reporting to the Cabinet Office. The new minister for tourism is Michela Vittoria Brambilla, who previously occupied the position of undersecretary.
“The fact that tourism is again to be represented in the cabinet is cause for great satisfaction, not just for me but for all those who operate in the market and who for some time have been aware of how this could significantly boost our economic growth. In close partnership with the regions, local bodies and all trade associations in the sector, I will do my utmost to ensure tourism takes on an increasingly strategic role for our country, both in terms of creating new resources and improving employment levels”, said the new minister.
