Launched by Fiera Milano Congressi in partnership with 18 4- and 5-star hotels, the Destination Milan network’s objective is to promote the city as a destination for conferences and events, providing clients with a comprehensive service, not just in searching for hotels and events venues, but also in identifying locations for gala dinners and evenings, and organising tours and pre- and post-congress activities for delegates.
Fiera Milano Congressi manages large conference centres (the Milano Convention Centre MIC at Fieramilanocity, the Stella Polare Conference Centre at Fieramilano, Spazio Villa Erba in Cernobbio, on Lake Como, and the Montecitorio Meeting Centre in Rome): the Destination Milan network and partnerships with some of Milan’s largest conference hotels allows FMC to complete its product offer and gain access to the extensive market of events with less than 500 participants.
The MIC’s large expansion project, which involves converting two former trade fair pavilions and integrating them with the existing conference centre to form a venue boasting a total capacity of 18,000, 72 rooms and a plenary hall of 4,500, was presented by Fiera Milano Congressi to an audience of national and international event organisers and opinion leaders in a three-day event held from 14 to 16 May 2009.
In addition to the presentation, opened by Milan’s mayor Letizia Moratti, there was a forum of international speakers on the state and relaunch of the meetings industry and a tour for foreign participants.
