The Puglian “convention resort” expands its events space with a permanent marquee.

Nova Yardinia, the “convention resort” in Castellaneta Marina, Puglia, 25 km from Taranto and situated on the edge of a bio-genetic reserve for the conservation of a species of pine tree native to the Mediterranean area, is expanding its conference capacity.
“The 1,300-capacity marquee set in the heart of the resort, already used in 2008 to host a couple of events, will this year become permanent from 1 May to 31 October, bringing the conference capacity into line with the accommodation offer, comprising 790 rooms, spread over four hotels, two 5-star and two 4-star, all built in accordance with the principles of bio-architecture”, explains general manager Vincenzo Gentile.
“The marquee will complement the other 38 meeting and event spaces, the 3,500 sqm Thalasso Spa Kalidria centre, the 5 kilometres of private sandy beach and crystal-clear sea, the six open-air swimming pools and nine restaurants”. These numbers, together with the beautiful natural environment in which the resort is set, explain its success on the meetings market: in the last three years, events have been organised here for leading international companies from a range of sectors, including Bayer, Volkswagen, Telecom Italia and Levi’s, some with conventions numbering more than 1,000 participants.
“Our MICE team has succeeded in creating original formats for the activities we offer. One example is the themed dinner Welcome to Magna Graecia, a finger-food party at Thalasso Spa where guests, dressed only in a toga, are immersed in the atmosphere of Ancient Greece, with epic music, scented candles, large sofas and good wine; or the Cena fra i Sassi [Dinner among the rocks], staged in an old convent in Matera, overlooking the cave churches. There are also multiple excursions and team-building activities, from competitions building sand castles, cooking or orienteering in the pine forest or on the beach, to the Paese Fantasma, the experience of bringing a completely abandoned village back to life”.
