The hotel complex set in an historic abbey in the Umbrian hills is targeting the conference and incentive market, and is set to open a relaxation area in the near future.

The Badia di Orvieto, the hotel complex set in an abbey built at the end of the 6th century, is focusing on the conference market. It is set among the olive groves and vineyards, and belongs to the Counts Fiumi di Sterpeto, an ancient noble Umbrian family who many years ago restored the estate in a way that maximised comfort while remaining true to its origins.
“We are creating a relaxation area with a sauna and fitness corner to further broaden our offer”, explains manager Luisa Fiumi. “The uniqueness of the setting, immersed in an area where time seems to have stopped, makes the hotel attractive for international corporate meetings, which can be held in the 150-seater meeting room set in the Oratorio del Crocefisso, once a place of worship. For example, one of the world’s largest auto components and mecatronics companies, based in Sweden and with branches in 28 countries, organised a three-day seminar in September, and reserved the entire complex”.
The 30 participants were taken on a guided tour of the most important monuments of Orvieto: the highlights included a guided tour of Orvieto Underground through the town’s underground caves, and a stop at one of the most prestigious Orvieto Classico DOC wine cellars with a tasting in a former old country church.
“The welcoming dinner in our restaurant comprised a series of Umbrian dishes, including an hors d’oeuvres of wild boar and game cold meats, umbrichelli pasta with Norcia black truffle and coccinello, piglet cooked over a juniper wood fire, all washed down with wine from the owner’s vineyards”.
