The first large plenary convention of the Italian meetings industry was held in March in Viareggio, Tuscany, at the Principe di Piemonte Conference Centre.
The medium-term objectives outlined by federation chairman Adolfo Parodi include: the establishment of an organised and efficient national convention bureau, setting up education and professional training courses, legislative measures to foster sector development, the recognition of conference-organising professionals, certification, quality and consultancy for promotion and investment.
The convention provided a great opportunity to gain updates on some of the key issues in the industry, such as tax deductibility (obtained in the recent national budget, again thanks to Federcongressi), negotiating with suppliers and buyers (the subject of a seminar), international experiences, co-operation between associations and promotion on international markets.
