Starhotels has added a new 4-star hotel to its collection: the Starhotels Grand Milan is situated in Saronno, a small town 30 km from the city, strategically located near Malpensa international airport.
This is the first time the company has taken over the management of a property without owning it. This recently-opened hotel has 201 rooms of various kinds, 47 apartments (with a small hidden kitchen), a conference centre with six meeting rooms (catering for a total of 370 people), which are soon set to rise to 16, all with natural light, and a 400 sqm foyer. Business travellers and conference delegates can make use of a business centre, the easybusiness desk (a 24-hour internet point, equipped with an ultra-flat LCD screen, connected to a colour printer) and wireless internet in all communal areas.
The restaurant, overlooking a small internal garden and boasting a well-stocked wine cellar on display, can serve up to 265 covers. In the near future, the hotel is also set to add a spa with sauna, Turkish bath, fitness room and treatment cabins.
Starhotels Grand Milan was conceived by Swiss architect Mario Botta, who designed the two nine-storey buildings linked by a central tower, and fellow architect Lorenzo Bellini, who was responsible for the interiors. Outside, the hotel is adorned with wood, stone, marble and crystal, while the key feature of the interior spaces is light, starting with the grand lobby with its large central dome that accentuates the sophisticated, contemporary, minimalist furnishings, and its blend of modern and eastern art.
