The 4-star opens in this southern Italian city, famous for its “sassi” architecture. With its hi-tech conference centre and exclusive spa, the hotel is designed to meet the demands of business clientele.

A December opening for the Italian Nicolaus Hotels chain’s sixth property. The new Hilton Garden Inn, located in Matera, was designed by Swiss architect Willi Ramstein, and is just three kilometres from the famous sassi, those ancient gaggles of houses dug into the tufa rock and declared part of UNESCO’s World Heritage list.
“The structure, with sinuous shapes and warm nuances, integrate the hotel perfectly into surrounding territory,” explains Andrea Adduci, the director of sales. “Our interiors have been created by local artisans and are in a welcoming, contemporary style”. The 125 guestrooms include three junior suites and offer a charming view across the cornfields that embrace the hillsides of Matera. “The Hilton Garden Inn brand’s philosophy envisages guestrooms for the business traveller, with comfortable “Mirra®” work chairs, as well as high-speed internet connection in all rooms, not to mention the Garden Sleep System bed, with its variable-consistency mattress,” says Adduci. The hotel completes its amenities with the Venus Spa&Fitness centre with sauna, hammam, a large heated indoor-outdoor swimming pool, state-of-the-art fitness equipment and an extensive range of beauty treatments.
For meetings, the Hilton Garden Inn Matera has installed free wi-fi throughout, and has five modular meeting rooms with natural lighting, of which the biggest seats 400. The rooms are six metres high so they are ideal for any type of event, and they boast cutting-edge technology equipment. Another two rooms, seating 220 and 360, are set aside for banqueting, working lunches and gala dinners. “In synergy with local DMCs, we organize guided visits, exhibitions and theme evenings, to entertain guests with our local traditions and folklore”.
