| Positive results for the first year of Piceno Congressi |
|
|
The destination marketing project is helping to put this part of central Italy on the map for the events market.

Location: Marche in central Italy. Piceno is the area in the south of the region, and is made up of mountains and green hills that stretch to the Adriatic, punctuated with age-old historic villages. The capital is Ascoli Piceno, a dynamic and lively monumental city, situated half-way (around 70 km) between the airports of Ancona and Pescara.
The Piceno region has until now been largely overlooked by the events market, but a the beginning of this year, it launched a destination marketing plan, Piceno Congressi, with a view to promoting the region for medium-sized medical/scientific conferences and small, high-quality incentive programmes. The project was 75%-financed by the privately-owned Carisap Bank Foundation, while the remainder was funded by regional and provincial government, and six municipalities (San Benedetto del Tronto, Grottammare, Acquaviva Picena, Offida, Ripatransone and Roccafluvione). Actions already taken include attending the IMEX in Frankfurt and the BTC in Rome, organising various fam trips and launching integrated communications campaigns. |

Piceno boasts a conference centre with a capacity of 1,500 right on its coast, the Palazzo dei Congressi di San Benedetto del Tronto, but the whole region is a mine of fascinating, small historic venues, for events from 50 to 300 participants. Ascoli Piceno, for example, offers Palazzo dei Capitani, overlooking the Renaissance Piazza del Popolo, the 15th century Sant’Agostino complex, with its large auditorium and several smaller rooms, the neoclassical Ventidio Basso theatre, the Carisap Foundation auditorium and the Chamber of Commerce conference centre. The medieval village of Offida has a 250-capacity hall belonging to the regional wine cellar, and the 350 seats of the 19th century Serpente Aureo theatre. Ripatransone, another historic village, offers Palazzo del Podestà and the 14th century Mercantini theatre, with rooms catering for up to 250 participants.
